It’s time to conquer the world, one movie at a time…
It’s nothing new, we always see singers trying to act or vice versa (or even model to actor, actor to directer, useless person to reality star, etc), as if their current profession isn’t enough. The list is so long but some who tried and missed in my view are the following:
But you have to give JLo some credit. She’s not good at both professions, but she’s persistent. Maybe by the time she’s 50 she’ll have enough experience to actually be good in something other than looking FLAWLESS. Same goes to Queen Latifah, she’s also quite persistent in her acting career, but I have to admit, she wasn’t all that bad in Set It Off. I guess I might as well give a little credit to Janet Jackson in Why Did I Get Married (I & II).
I realized there are so many artists from the hip hop industry that have crossed over to acting. Will Smith, Ice Cube, Jamie Foxx, Tupac, Mos Def…and they’ve all had decent performances in one or two movies.
Will Smith: Bad Boys I & II
Ice Cube: Boyz n the Hood, Friday & Next Friday
Jamie Foxx: Collateral, Ray
Tupac: Juice, GridLock’d
And the most underrated artist to crossover is ….. Mos Def: Italian Job, 16 Blocks, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy
All Mos Def needs is better roles, but he definitely has shown that he is a versatile actor.
Now don’t get me started on the list of actors turned singers – it’s atrocious!
