Andy Warhol

Andy Warhol was born Aug 6, 1928 and unexpectedly passed away on Feb 22, 1987.

He was a painter, print-maker, author, and a film-maker and a leading figure in the pop art movement. He coined the widely used expression “15 minutes of fame.” His “Eight Elvises” earned a whopping $100 million, the highest price ever paid for a Warhol painting.

What attracted me to Andy Warhol, years ago, was the uniqueness of his artwork. When I looked deeper into his work, I found that his uniqueness is also reflected on his character. After his death, they found hundreds of wigs in his NY apartment.

Warhol died in New York on February 27, 1987 after a gallbladder operation. He influenced the POP Art movement – starring Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor, and many others.

His legacy lives on in the Andy Warhol Museum (Pittsburgh)  and the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts (New York).
