If Archie Comics was made into a Movie…

When I was younger, I used to buy Archie Comics once a week and it wouldn’t take me long to finish it. When I heard about the parody movie trailer, I quickly hit up youtube…

For those who don’t know, it all began with Archie’s character back in 1941 and over time developed in a full comic with many other flamboyant characters…

Set in the small town of Riverdale, Archie, a redheaded 17-year-old attending Riverdale High School,  is a typical small-town teenager. Generous, well-mannered, but clumsy, he is genuinely liked by many of his friends. Archie is infatuated by attractive girls, but his main love interests are Veronica Lodge and Betty Cooper. He has taken various employment, but despite the best intentions, often clumsily breaks things. He’s also always butting heads with Veronica’s father Hiram Lodge and Riverdale High’s principal, Waldo Weatherbee.

Reaching more than 80,000 views on YouTube since its release Thursday, a Vancouver-made spoof video shot for $3,500 in just two days with the help of volunteers has gone viral.

The video, called Riverdale, is based on the Archie comic-book series and features local actors playing the characters.

It is a parody shot in the style of a movie trailer — meant to comment on the trend of “gritty” remakes of popular franchises — and portrays a darker side of the fictional high school in the comic books. It touches on themes of drug use, teen pregnancy, jealously, sexual assault, violence and homophobia. So it’s not you typical Archie comic. It’s kind of like taking Archie and his friends and bringing them to life in today’s movie themes.
